–Metallix, The New Threat |
Metallix (pronounced "Meh-TAL-licks"), originally known as Metal Sonic, is a major antagonist in Super Mario Bros. Z, and the main antagonist of the Metallix Saga. He is an evil, ultra high-performance super-robot who seeks the Chaos Emeralds to complete his power.
Biography[]
Appearance[]
In his previous form, Metal Sonic was created in the image of Sonic the Hedgehog and was thus mostly built of blue metal to resemble Sonic’s blue spines. He had a yellow circular depression in his chest with a black center, mirroring the peach skin of Sonic's chest. His head had metal fins resembling Sonic's quills and a pair of triangular "ears." a muzzle, shoulder plates, upper arms, legs, and fingers made out of silvery metal. His palms were black, while the backs of his hands were square yellow plates. His forearms and lower legs were made of blue metal like his head and torso, and he had red feet with white stripes designed to resemble Sonic's shoes. He had optic sensors with black sclera and red irises.
In his new body, Metallix bears a resemblance to his previous form, but with more drastic changes, most directly resembling his 2006 iteration's unused final form of the same name. His quills are now sharper, curved up, and have silver tips, and his eyes have silver highlights surrounding them. Compared to his previous form’s sleeker frame, Metallix has a taller and sturdier build. He is more humanoid in his appearance, adorned with blue, silver, and red armor, and red orbs protruding from his gauntlets. Embedded in his chest is a red reactor core that houses an interior in which he can store Chaos Emeralds.
Personality[]
In his previous form, Metal Sonic was a cold and aggressive robot. His silence and usually emotionless demeanor gave him an air of mystery. Created by Dr. Eggman to act as his enforcer as well as act as direct competition to Sonic the Hedgehog, he developed a superiority complex due to his purpose and programming, believing himself superior to Sonic in every aspect and seeking to destroy Sonic whenever possible. However, Metal Sonic also carried the capability for rebellion and vengeance. He would often disobey Eggman's orders and set out to destroy Sonic himself to prove his superiority and get revenge for his repeated defeats. This disobedient streak would lead to the crucial moment of Metal Sonic absorbing his fellow robots to transform into Metallix.
After upgrading, Metallix's cold heart and ruthless nature are exacerbated to the point where he becomes a totally merciless killing machine. He shows no mercy to any creature he encounters and will take lives without a second thought to get what he wants. According to Sonic, Metallix bears a lust for power and destruction, shown by his desire to achieve ultimate power by collecting the Chaos Emeralds. In his pursuit, he is willing to destroy anyone and anything that gets in his way.
Metallix appears to enjoy a good fight, much like Sonic. His fighting style matches his brutal and sadistic nature, as he laughs coldly when preparing to beat Yoshi to a pulp and while choking the life out him at the end of their battle. Despite his sadism, it does not override his more pragmatic side. He could've easily wiped out the rest of Yoshi's friends, but instead chose to focus on collecting the Chaos Emeralds, implying that he values their power over his own sadistic whims. Amongst his wishes, Metallix ultimately seeks to defeat Sonic and prove his superiority to him, just as he did in his previous form.
History[]
Metallix Saga[]

Metallix arrives in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Metallix teleported from Sonic's World to the dimension of the Mushroom Kingdom. When he landed, he noticed a nearby Goomba holding the Blue Chaos Emerald. Metallix demanded the Goomba give him the Chaos Emerald. When the confused and terrified Goomba didn't know what he was talking about, Metallix destroyed him with a single blast.[1]
Metallix later looked over the wilderness of the Mushroom Kingdom, observing his Chaos Emerald. After contemplating his next move, he took off into the distance.[2]
Metallix later fires a set of missiles at Luigi and Yoshi, who are fighting Wario and Waluigi over the White Chaos Emerald, sending Wario Bros. blasting off and causing Yoshi to fall into deep into the Grassland's forest. Metallix arrives and demands the Chaos Emerald from him. Yoshi refuses to hand the Emerald over, earning Metallix's ire and prompting him to attack. Yoshi is punched and sent flying through several trees before crashing into the wall of a plateau. He gets up quick enough to watch Metallix trying to retrieve the Chaos Emerald. Using his tongue, Yoshi snatches the Emerald before Metallix does, and places it in his mouth. Metallix demands Yoshi to spit the Chaos Emerald out. Despite having his life threatened, Yoshi boldly swallows the Emerald and belches in Metallix's face. Amused, but unfazed, Metallix decides to simply kill Yoshi and take the Chaos Emerald from his 'mutilated carcass'. Yoshi then uses his Egg Roll and escapes as he is hounded by an onslaught of bullets from Metallix's arm-mounted mini gun. He barely manages to escape the line of Metallix's mini gun fire. However, Metallix fires four missiles from his missile launcher on his shoulder, with the missiles striking Yoshi in his Egg Roll. Metallix catches up to Yoshi before kicking him to the air and uses a combination of V. Maximum Overdrive Attack and Homing Attack techniques to send him crashing hard into the ground leaving Yoshi unconscious.
However, as Metallix approaches the seemingly defeated Yoshi, the White Chaos Emerald in his stomach suddenly begins to shine, causing the stomach to drastically agitate, while Yoshi wakes up and suddenly powers up due to involuntarily managing to tap into the energy of the Chaos Emerald; thus, transforming into Chaos Yoshi. With the power of the Chaos Emerald enhancing his strength and speed, allowing him to fly, while enveloping him in a golden aura, Yoshi manages to overwhelm Metallix by throwing explosive eggs at him. However, Metallix was only angered and annoyed by Yoshi's offense, and taps into the power of the Blue Chaos Emerald located in the reactor core in his chest. He uses the Chaos Energy to dominate and brutally assault Yoshi by far. Yoshi, who receives severe damage and a black eye in battle, manages to try to catch Metallix with his tongue to swallow him and turn him into a big Yoshi egg, with the egg ready to explode due to the Yoshi's Chaos form. Witnessing this, Yoshi throws the egg with the robot inside at a plateau, with the big egg making a massive energy blowout upon impact, seemingly destroying the evil robot.
Yoshi manages to survive from the explosion. Feeling no traces of Metallix's presence, the severely injured and exhausted dinosaur believed that he has emerged victorious from the fight, while trying to leave the battle zone full of rubble. But shortly afterwards, Yoshi hears a frightening sound from behind. And Metallix emerged from the rubble in a massive inferno. The demonic robot comes out of the ravaging fire with clear intentions to kill displaying in his piercing red eyes. Yoshi tries to escape in anguish and horror, but Metallix blocks his way. Yoshi tries to catch him with his tongue again, but the robot manages to catch his tongue and give Yoshi a prolonged brutal beating. Metallix throws Yoshi into a plateau by rapidly releasing his tongue, and savagely strikes Yoshi in his stomach by copying his Ground Pound, causing him to spit out the White Chaos Emerald while Metallix quickly catches it and teleports it into his reactor core for storage. To make the beatings even more brutal, Metallix proceeds to power up with both the Blue and White Chaos Emeralds via his Ultra Combo technique, and launch wild blows at the dinosaur, following by taking him high into the air and savagely throwing him with gigantic force to the plateau, destroying it and thus ending the battle.
Metallix comments how he has two of the seven Chaos Emeralds, and how close he is to having his completed power. He laments how it took him longer than anticipated to beat Yoshi and take the Emerald but dismisses it as a minor setback. Hearing a groan, Metallix turned to find the dinosaur still alive, crawling despite receiving life-threatening injuries. Metallix, who witnessed this, approaches and grabs Yoshi by the neck. Suddenly, Metallix decides to fatally punish Yoshi for his opposition and refusal of giving him the Chaos Emerald by strangling him to death. As Metallix sadistically enjoys Yoshi's slow and agonizing death, he suddenly releases him when he detects the approach of Sonic and Shadow accompanied by Mario and Luigi. Irate, Metallix decides to fight for a moment, but then changes his mind and searches the other Chaos Emeralds instead, and flies away to continue his search.
Powers and Abilities[]
In his previous form, Metal Sonic could rival Sonic in all aspects, matching him in terms of speed and strength.
In his new body, Metallix is more powerful than before. He possesses scanners that allow him to track down the Chaos Emeralds and he can project destructive energy blasts. In The New Threat, Metallix is shown to fly at supersonic speeds. According to Mark Haynes, Metallix possess the data of all of Sonic's friends, that he stole from Eggman's supercomputer, and can use all of their abilities as a result.[3] This was first shown when he uses Sonic's Homing Attack on Yoshi. He can also copy one’s biodata, enabling him to acquire the data of those he fights.
As seen in The New Threat, Metallix is a profound expert in hand-to-hand combat. He makes use of his overwhelming power and speed to deliver strong kicks and powerful punches in an unrelenting fighting style. He is quick to make use of his speed and strength to crush his opponents into the ground or a wall. During his fight with Yoshi, despite his enemy being empowered by the White Chaos Emerald and gaining a slight advantage, Metallix was able to avoid and block his attacks before quickly turning the tide.
Much like his enemies, Sonic and Shadow, Metallix can harness the energy of the Chaos Emeralds to increase his power. He tapped into the Blue Chaos Emerald's energy during his fight with Yoshi.

Relationships[]
Sonic the Hedgehog[]
Sonic the Hedgehog is Metal Sonic's organic template and archenemy. When he was Metal Sonic, he was Sonic's real rival. Being created by Dr. Eggman for the sole purpose of destroying Sonic, Metal Sonic always fought him to near-death but would still be defeated in the end. The numerous defeats made Metal Sonic all the more determined to defeat Sonic, going as far as to disobey Eggman's orders and upgrade his own body several times. In time, the once suggested command festered into hatred, and Metal Sonic sought to defeat Sonic on his own whim and at any cost. The hate would fuel his decision to merge with the older Sonic robots to gain his current form.
Shadow the Hedgehog[]
Shadow and Metallix are nothing short of mortal enemies due to the latter killing Shadow's only two friends, Rouge and E-123 Omega.
Doctor Eggman[]
Coming soon
Yoshi[]
Metallix looked down on Yoshi from their first meeting, which he referred to him as an "insect." When Yoshi belched at him, he laughed it off before deciding to kill him. When Yoshi proved his worth and managed to fight back, Metallix began to despise him. When the fight ended, he referred to the dinosaur as a "maggot" before he went out of his way to try ending Yoshi's life as slowly and painfully as possible.
