Luigi Mario is a resident of the Mushroom Kingdom, and the younger brother of Mario. He is one of the main protagonists of Super Mario Bros. Z, trying to stop Turbo Mecha Sonic from collecting all of the Chaos Emeralds.

Biography[]

Appearance[]

Luigi appears very similar to his brother Mario, but with a slightly slimmer and taller physique. He possesses the same brown hair and black mustache as well, though Luigi's mustache is slightly neater than Mario's. His clothing are similar to Mario, but his shirt and cap are colored green rather than red.

Personality[]

Luigi is a very cowardly, but energetic character; he therefore ends up becoming easily frightened and discouraged from fighting, much to his teammates' dismay. He is seen usually teaming up with Sonic whenever he gets his momentary bursts of courage. While Shadow's angry attitude often frightens him, Yoshi is always the one who comfortably carries Luigi on his saddle of his back, especially in Episodes 7 & 8. He later fights the Axem Rangers X and the Koopa Bros. with his team, but when Mecha Sonic appears and decimates the Koopa Bros' ultimate attack, he becomes too scared and tries to hide in his shell, though Mario drags him to the fight anyway. He shows his brave side in Episode 7 when going to help Mario and the rest of the team when they were trapped in the Minus World, only to end up being surrounded by Bloopers when he gets there. He may be seen as the comic relief in the series, but his feelings are very realistic, especially by seeing Semi-Super Mecha Sonic brutally destroying the Axem Rangers X. Luigi is also extremely compassionate; in episode 3, he dashed off when Yoshi falls off a cliff while searching for Chaos Emeralds, screaming for Mario's help. He shows great love and concern for his brother as well, often healing or reviving him when he is injured/killed.

Powers and Abilities[]

Luigi does not usually fight when alone and instead chooses to run from his opponents, but he will team up with his friends to make some powerful attacks. When he does actually fight, he is capable of fighting at a level equal to Mario. Luigi is known to have new hidden powers and known to be a natural spell-type fighter. He uses a hammer like his brother, and he also is a great jumper. He has a rushing attack where he runs at opponents and aimlessly swings his fists at them (like his dash attack in the Smash Bros. series). He also uses his Green Missile attack from Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl, and can also use a Super Jump Punch that, while appearing differently from the Fire Jump Punch he possesses in the Smash Bros. series, is just as powerful and works in a similar fashion. He uses his hammer to knock Sonic at enemies, when he fights against the Yoshi Tribe. Also, whenever he is Shell Luigi or a statue as Tanooki Luigi, Yoshi picks him up with his tongue and spits him back at enemies.

Transformations[]

Cape Luigi[]

After using a Cape Feather, Luigi gains a yellow cape that grants him the ability to fly. This form allows Luigi to utilize spinning techniques, being able to hit opponents with his cape in rapid succession.

Shell Luigi[]

After using a Blue Shell, Luigi gains a blue Koopa shell that is worn over his regular attire. Tucking into the shell grants Luigi incredible defensive capabilities, with him even being able to withstand attacks from Mecha Sonic in his Semi-Super form. While tucked in the shell, Luigi can also slide around inside of it and act as a springboard when jumped upon by allies.

Tanooki Luigi[]

After using a Tanooki Suit, Luigi dons a brown Tanooki-like suit. The suit grants Luigi the same abilities as Mario's Raccoon transformation, being able to fly and use the suit's tail for spinning attacks. However, unlike the Raccoon transformation, Luigi's Tanooki form allows him to turn into either a stone statue or other heavy objects. The suit was also shown to be able to manually remove the petrification induced by Basilisx.

Techniques[]

Like his brother Mario, Luigi is a versatile fighter with an assortment of techniques at his disposal.

  • Green Missile - A technique that originated from Super Smash Bros.. Luigi launches himself headfirst into his opponent at high speed.
  • Super Jump Punch - A technique that originated from Super Smash Bros. Luigi leaps upward with a jumping uppercut.
  • Coward Punch - A technique that originated from Super Smash Bros. Luigi runs forward while aimlessly swinging his fists around.
  • Knockback Bros. - A technique that first appeared in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Performed alongside Sonic, Sonic curls into a ball while Luigi hits him with his Hammer, slamming Sonic into an opponent before ricocheting back to Luigi to repeat the process.
